Elijah

For Elijah Maddern, it began in the rural setting of small-town Kaniva, a farming community doing it tough like farming communities seem to do.  Life was a cycle seemingly without end, a 33 1/3 spinning on the same old groove: school, work, farm, play, school, work, farm, play. Pretty standard life in a small country town.

But small country towns have a habit of producing the extraordinary. At fourteen, Elijah discovered drums. By fifteen he was playing in a ten-piece soul band, often trading drums for vocals. At sixteen it was guitar, then songwriting, then solo performing. The first gigs were small affairs; the local pub, the odd 21st, a wedding here and there. But word spread fast, as did the shows. Now Elijah is everywhere: festivals, corporate shows, charity events.  You name it, he's there.

In March 2010 Elijah went into the studio to lay down his first record. "City Lights Disco Sounds" is the culmination of his years of playing and writing music to date, and presents a sophisticated groove-driven collection rich in R'n'B harmony and modern pop sensibilities. And while one can hear some of Elijah's influences, like Stevie Wonder, Sinatra, John Mayer, Jamiroquai, Tim Freedman and Michael Jackson in the mix, the songs are new, fresh and uniquely Elijah Maddern. A recording of maturity, passion and charisma well beyond the 22 years he's walked this earth.

It's not hard to be won over by Elijah Maddern. All it takes is a couple of  words, a couple of notes from the soulful voice, and we're hooked. As all available space is filled with Maddern's City Lights | Disco Sounds, we know we're experiencing something inspirational.
